Two years into aerospace engineering academic coursework at Virginia Tech, Jess changed her career path and entered the restaurant industry. Working on the corporate side of restaurants equipped her with skills like budgeting, management, and organization. With the support of her family and her employer, Rick Lyons of LUNCH.SUPPER!, Jess then launched her small plates, dessert, and beverage pairing dining experience, Four Forks, with her husband, Randy.
Jess ventured into entrepreneurship because of her desire to create something of her own, and she was spurred by the creative composition of food based on texture, flavor profiles, abstract art, and colors schemes. Jess wanted to share her love of beautifully plated, delicious desserts, and so she created Four Forks, a concept inspired by eating fresh garden-to-table meals at Jess’s aunt and uncle’s home in Powhatan. She started by selling pies and cakes at local farmers markets prior to holding dessert and beverage pairing pop-ups earlier this year at various local hotspots.
