HYPE

Join HYPE at the annual Icons Awards Show as we recognize young professionals for their early career success and companies killing it with YP culture. This party will bring YPs and executives from all around Richmond together to celebrate the 18 corporate and individual finalists and honor the winners.

This year’s event will feature keynote speaker, artist Noah Scalin and our host and comedian Micah “Bam-Bamm” White.

Micah “Bam-Bamm” White is the Executive Director of The Central Virginia African American Chamber of Commerce. Prior to his appointment, White operated RVA Has Talent, which showcases local aspiring entertainers.

On the side, he has spent over 20 years in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, host, and philanthropist. Through his various efforts, White’s mission is simple: to use comedy and entertainment to find common ground by bridging racial, religious, socioeconomic, and generational gaps.

Noah Scalin is the first artist-in-residence at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Business. He is the creator of the Webby Award-winning project Skull-A-Day and the collaborative science fiction universe & performance art project League of Space Pirates. His fine art has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Mütter Museum and Krause Gallery in NYC. He is the author of six books, including most recently Creative Sprint – which he co-wrote with his sister/business partner Mica Scalin.

TILTED

TILTED is an un-conference for social entrepreneurs and small businesses.

TILTED is designed to push the “professional conference” boundaries with a fresh format that allows participants to co-create a day of business learning. This will mark the fourth year since 2013 that hundreds of small business owners and social entrepreneurs will gather under the Tilted RVA “unconference” banner.

An “unconference” engages participants to interact and design their learning together — without the standard presentation and awkward networking format of most business conferences. Participants collaborate in the morning to identify what they want to learn, and who in the room has knowledge to share around each topic.

In addition to participant-led morning workshops, the day will include a community lunch with local food trucks (included in your ticket price) and a series of interactive sessions in the afternoon to build relationships with other entrepreneurs. You'll leave smarter, energized and more connected!

Social Media Master Class

Join the members of the Richmond Craft Mafia as we learn about the social strategy, storytelling & fundamentals you need to level-up your business. You'll walk out of this class with a solid understanding of where (and where not!) to focus your energy, a detailed content plan, and posts ready to publish!

Back in the fall, Meghan took a 4-part social media class for her day job, and she got so much out of it that she instantly knew the other RCMers and area creative types could use this class too. But instead of doing 2-hour sessions spread over four different days, we're bringing it to you in one compressed, 6-hour class on a Sunday.

The class is taught by Michelle Mercurio (Michelle Mercurio, brand strategist) and Stacy Mitchell Buchanan (Wythe Ave Consulting), two local social media experts with tons of experience in creating clear, beautiful, strategic plans that convey *your* story.

Bring your computer, bring your notebook, bring your smartphone. Don't worry about lunch though - we've got that covered for you. Gather has lots of delicious coffee.

If you have dietary needs, please let us know. We're more than happy to accommodate you.

Questions? Let us know!

SPARK Richmond Summit

We host meetups for freelancers by freelancers: we invite you to bring your expertise, questions, and elevator pitches to the table to the workshop and discuss.

Join us on the first Wednesday of every month to meet other entrepreneurs in the area, get inspired, and talk about stuff like...

FEBRUARY’S SPARK:

We’ll kick off 2018 with a community conversation as we build an action plan:

  • What are the issues that matter most for independent workers?
    • protection from non-payment, health insurance, work/life balance, professional development, tax & legal issues, networking and growing our business?
  • How can we create a more positive community for freelancers this year?
  • How can our local SPARK meetup and Freelancers Union support these efforts?

There will also be time to network with other freelancers who may be able to offer tips you hadn’t considered before.

Regardless of industry, we all share similar experiences as independent business owners! We try to ensure everyone leaves with insights and connections that will help their business thrive.

This will be an intimate setting for networking + learning. We encourage group discussions and questions. For this workshop, we have just 12 spaces available.
