Entrepreneurship is nothing new for America DeLoach.As a child, in her native Caracas, Venezuela, America sold soap and was always deep in thought about business. Unsurprisingly, in 2001, she started her first business in the U.S. at Tysons Corner as a shop curator of South American artisan pieces, selling to both the general public and large institutions, such as the Smithsonian and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The three of us were having drinks at the rooftop bar of Quirk Hotel in Richmond. We considered our drink options; a vodka tonic is too sweet, but a vodka soda isn’t enough. We asked the bartender to combine the two mixers, and she immediately recognized what we wanted: a vodka “sonic.” In that moment, Navy Hill was born — a premium mixer that blends club soda and tonic and goes well with everything.

Inspired by Church Hill’s Union Market, their goal is to create a community hub with new establishments such as Hot Diggity Donuts, Butterbean Market and Café, Dogtown Brewing Co., Manastoh Brewing, The Bankuet Place, as well as residential spaces.
Lush Cupcakes is a boutique cupcake bakery specializing in alcohol-infused cupcakes. Each recipe uses local craft beers, wines, and spirits to create fun and unique flavors that are great for any event! After baking up a special batch of boozy cupcakes for a “stock the bar” party, Rachel has taken her hobby and turned it into an expanding business with events at breweries, cideries, and wineries all across central Virginia!
For a handful of pioneering women of color in Richmond, the goals they set for themselves as young girls may not have included working in the wine industry, but by raising their glasses to viticulture, they are representing different sides of a dynamic prism.
